It is safe to say we are glad to close the chapter in 2020. The past year, commuting from the bedroom to the living room has become a thing. We recognised that not all heroes wear capes instead, they wear scrubs and PPE masks. Travelling has become a rarity, and the impending risks of catching a novel virus from hugging friends and relatives have put us, social creatures, at least 2 metres apart from our loved ones.
The Covid pandemic has truly tested our resilience in the last year.
Looking ahead to a better and brighter future, albeit still naive to think life will return to how it used to be before 2020. Nevertheless, the new year gives room for plenty of opportunities to improve future choices.
Here are 5-ways to start the new year ahead making the most of the changes from the post-covid era;
2020 was the year households became work-offices. With no signs of changes ahead, why not shift how we socialise and invest quality time around our local communities, as we spend less time off around our workplace?
When was the last time you spoke to your neighbour? When did you go for a stroll to a nearby park or visit your local shops? There’s never been a better time to learn more about the neighbourhood you call home and hidden gems that make your community so unique.
For some industries, productivity has been effectively grown, without leaving home. However, nothing beats the face to face interaction from being in the office and the odd bit of gossip shared by the coffee machine.
Companies are wary of the risks for going back to work so soon, so the option of working in the office on rotation may be on the cards. That would be the solution to a better work-life-balance we all seemed to have always craved in the past. There are some signs of a silver lining thanks to covid.
We only remember the good times until our favourite jams start playing on the radio, bringing nostalgic memories from past trips to mind. All the parties, festivals and incredible summer stories.
Travel is not going to go away forever. However, it will take time for us to be enjoying the vibes from places like Ibiza or massive gatherings such as Glastonbury. Travelling to crowded cities may have to wait until the entire world is without the risks of catching covid, though, not all is lost. There are plenty of off-the-beaten-paths on Earth. Extraordinary places only a few dared to venture so far. The growing search for solitude, meaningful connections and spiritual awakening might be the next big thing in travel.
Think of exploring the Sahara Desert or visiting the paradisiac islands of The Bahamas. Travelling with a purpose is what we’re most excited about 2021.
With our lives ever so dependent on screens, apps and mobile phones becoming an essential part of our lives, the need for time off gadgets seems significantly clear. Taking time for a digital detox not only will help to reconnect to our ingrained social skills, but it also decreases issues linked to the overuse of screens and social media. Unplugging from time to time, trading the FOMO for long walks in nature or doing something charitable once in a while can be powerful ways to create positive habits for the new year ahead.
People lost relatives and entire family livelihoods were obliterated. Jobs are on the firing line and there is still, a lot of suffering from the pandemic.
Kindness and love will always be free, so let’s help those around us to rebuild and strengthen things back up. Change starts within us.
The Helios team wish kindness and plenty love to one another for 2021, as the saying goes, the comeback is always stronger than the setback.
